Privacy policy

Draft — for counsel review. Effective September 2026. Atlas Project (“we”) runs a text-message service that connects people who have been in a car crash with a licensed attorney and a tow operator. This policy says what we collect, why, who sees it, how long we keep it, and how to delete it.

What we collect

Your phone number and the messages you send us; your location, only if you tap to share it; your name, vehicle, and a description of what happened, if you choose to provide them; insurance details, only if you choose to provide them — by photo, by a form, or by connecting your insurer account through our insurance-verification partner, which returns policy, coverage, and deductible information you authorize; and technical logs (timestamps, delivery status). We do not ask for medical records, Social Security numbers, or payment information. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.

Why

To reply to you, to route your request to an attorney and a tow operator near you, to relay your details to them so they can help you, to send required disclosures, to send up to three short follow-ups (a day-after check-in, an optional insurance-explainer offer, and one question about whether you were helped), and to keep the records the law requires (consent and disclosure logs). We do not use your information for our own marketing without your separate opt-in.

Who sees it

The attorney and the tow operator assigned to you (the attorney's name and firm are texted to you before the call); our service providers who host and transmit messages under contract (for example our messaging carrier, hosting provider, and insurance-verification partner), who may use your information only to provide the service to us; and authorities if the law requires. We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. Text-message opt-in data and consent are never shared with third parties for their own marketing.

Attorneys, tow operators, and their own obligations

Once your details reach an attorney or tow operator, they hold them under their own legal and professional obligations. Attorneys are bound by the duty of confidentiality. If you want them to delete your information, the confirmation we send you names them so you can ask directly.

How long we keep it

Ninety days after your last activity, then deleted automatically. Sooner if you ask. Consent and disclosure logs may be kept longer in de-identified form to show compliance.

Delete, correct, or see your data

Text DELETE to ########### from your phone, or use the delete page. We verify the number, erase everything, and email you a confirmation, usually within minutes and always within 72 hours. To see or correct your data, email hello@atlasproj.org. California residents have the rights to know, delete, correct, and to opt out of sale or sharing (we do neither) under the CCPA/CPRA; we will not treat you differently for exercising them. An authorized agent may act for you with written permission.

Security

Personal information is encrypted in transit and at rest. Access by attorneys and their staff requires an individual login with a role that limits what each person can see; every view of a record is logged. Two-factor sign-in is available to every partner user but not required.

Business documents we share

When we send a prospective partner a confidential document (for example a partner deck or an NDA), we send a private link made for that person rather than a file. Opening the link records the time, the approximate location, the device type, and the IP address, and tells us whether the link has been opened before. We use this only to know who has seen the document and whether it was forwarded. This applies to business recipients, not to people who text ###########.
